Where California learns wine

Davis is home to the University of California, Davis, whose viticulture and enology program is renowned for training winemakers and grape growers from around the world. The bike-friendly college town and nearby Woodland offer a small but interesting wine scene.

Surrounded by some of California's most productive farmland, the area makes an easy stop between the Bay Area and Sacramento, with wine regions such as Clarksburg, Winters and Lodi close by.
