Wine country comes to the city

San Francisco has no vineyards to speak of, but it has a thriving community of urban winemakers who bring grapes in from Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, the Central Coast and beyond. Their wineries and tasting rooms are tucked into converted warehouses and neighborhood storefronts.

It is a wonderful way to sample the breadth of California wine without leaving town, with the city's celebrated restaurants and views never far away.
