Small-batch wine among giants

California's far north coast is better known for ancient redwoods, misty beaches and the college town of Arcata than for wine, and that is exactly the charm. A small community of winemakers works around Eureka, Arcata and the surrounding valleys, often from tiny cellars and family properties.

Inland, the Trinity River carves the warmer Willow Creek appellation, where sun and mountain soils ripen grapes the foggy coast cannot. Pair a tasting with redwood groves, the Victorian streets of Eureka and wild stretches of the Pacific.
