Wine country, by city block

Across Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, Richmond and nearby towns, winemakers have set up shop in warehouses, former industrial buildings and storefronts. They source grapes from vineyards all over California and pour them steps from restaurants, galleries and transit.

In the hills east of Oakland, the Lamorinda appellation around Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda adds small hillside vineyards to the mix. Together they make the East Bay an easy, car-light way to taste a remarkable range of California wine in an afternoon.
