Family wineries, historic valley

South of San Jose, Morgan Hill, San Martin and Gilroy keep alive the Santa Clara Valley's long winemaking tradition. Many wineries here are family-owned, some across several generations, and tastings tend to be warm and unhurried.

The valley floor and the slopes toward the Santa Cruz Mountains, including the scenic Hecker Pass area west of Gilroy, grow a wide range of varieties. It is an easy, relaxed escape from the Bay Area.
