Historic towns, foothill vines

Grass Valley and Nevada City preserve some of the best-kept Gold Rush architecture in California, with lively main streets, theaters and restaurants. Small wineries and tasting rooms are scattered through town and the surrounding forested hills.

To the west, the hills around Oregon House in Yuba County hold the North Yuba appellation and a handful of distinctive producers. Expect small-production wines and a personal welcome.
