Heritage wine, close to the Bay

Over the hills east of San Francisco Bay, the Livermore Valley is one of California's oldest wine regions, with winemaking roots reaching back to the 1800s. Some of the state's longest-running family wineries are here, alongside newer boutique producers and a lively downtown.

The valley's gravelly soils and afternoon breezes from the Bay have shaped its reputation, and Livermore has deep historic ties to Chardonnay and Petite Sirah as well as Cabernet Sauvignon. It is an easy escape for an afternoon or a weekend.
