Volcanic soils, big skies

Between the northern Sacramento Valley and the peaks of Lassen and Shasta, small family wineries dot foothill valleys around Redding, Red Bluff and Manton. It is a region of wide-open landscapes, rivers and lakes, with a pace that invites lingering.

On the slopes below Lassen Volcanic National Park, the Manton Valley appellation is known for red, volcanic soils, and its wineries line a scenic country road. Warm days and cool mountain nights help a broad mix of varieties ripen with freshness.
