Wine in the high desert

North of the San Gabriel Mountains, the Antelope Valley around Lancaster and Palmdale is high desert country of wide skies, Joshua trees and dramatic seasons. It is also a designated wine appellation, with a handful of small wineries.

In spring, the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve can blaze orange in a good bloom year, making it a lovely season for a visit.
